Something Special for Christmas.

December 22nd, 2006

Well, it’s that time of the year again.  People spending money like crazy, little kiddies getting all excited, beautiful decorations all over the place.  Me, I’m still in the same situation of no job and according to the news reports, I’m not alone.

But, I did come up with a special gift for the person I live with and also the four-legged creatures that allow us to share their home - I’m going to stop smoking.  That is difficult for a person who is addicted to smoking to even write, but you know what, I really want to quit.  I’m tired of the taste in my mouth, the way food seems to have an extra ingredient to it, and the smell.  Since Christmas is a special day for me, I thought it would be the best day to quit.  If you are so inclined, I ask for your prayers, positive thoughts, or good wishes to accomplish this.  For those of you that have made the same decision, I send my prayers, thoughts and best wishes for your success in overcoming this nicotine addiction!

I’ll keep you posted on my success.  May all good blessings come your way this Christmas!

Stress and Smoking

June 19th, 2006

So you are probably wondering what happened on June 1st, right? Did I quit smoking or not?  Well the answer is no, I didn’t quit. A few days before I was going to quit, I was told that the company I work for was downsizing and not only was I going to be downsized, but the person I live with was also being downsized. Our last day is June 30th.  In a matter of minutes, our whole household income was gone.  I’m sure many of you have been in the same situation.  Talk about STRESS!  Being addicted to smoking, I reached for my “friend”, but you know what-smoking is not helping me at all.  Intellectually, I accept that fact.  I know that smoking is just making the stress worse.  Here is a link to a little publication the gov puts out that talks about stress and smoking, it gave me something to think about , hope it does the same for you!   www.smokefree.gov/pubs/FFree6.pdf

Addicted to Smoking

May 26th, 2006

How many times have you heard the phrase “You really have to stop smoking.”  It might have come from a family member, a good friend or even your doctor. I usually respond “Yes, I know and I will one of these days.  Inside I’m thinking “I don’t really want to smoke, but don’t you understand I’m addicted to smoking?  I’ve tried to stop, but…”

Last year I stopped for 8 months and I have to tell you it was great!  Food tasted better, no smelly clothes, no ’smokers’ cough’, no worrying aqbout having enough cigarettes on hand.  You ask “Why did you start again?”  It all boiled down to one word - STRESS - a really bad day at work, bummed a cigarette from a co-woker and that was all it took to get hooked again.  I’m sure you have been in the same situation.

Hopefully, we can get through this together. In the end though it is up to one individual - each one of us has to do this on our own - not alone - but still on our own. This website, Addicted To Smoking has many tips and resources to help so please come back often.

One of the first things we are told to do is pick a quit day and then tell a trusted friend what that date is.  Be sure to pick a friend who will be a source of encouragenment and motivation.  OK, my quit date is June 1st.

Take care and get excited about quitting smoking!
